Which are the best players to own in Bundesliga Fantasy and what will a top manager’s team look like on MD1? We will answer these questions in this article.

Forwards

Harry Kane

🔴 Club: Bayern Munich

💰 Price: €13.5M

📅 First three fixtures: SVW (A), FCA (H), BMG (A)

The first name on the teamsheet for most Bundesliga Fantasy managers this season will undoubtedly be Harry Kane. By far the most expensive signing that the Bundesliga has ever seen at over 100M+, Harry Kane is at the peak of his career and has never had below 20-goal involvements in the Premier League ever so there is no room for doubt why he is one of the favourites for the Torjägerkanone or top scorer award on the most dangerous attack in the league. Bayern have one of the best schedules to start the season with games against Werder Bremen, Augsburg and Borussia in the first three matchdays not to mention that Kane is also available on sale at a bargain price of just 13.5M so I am expecting his 38% ownership to skyrocket before the season begins.

Loïs Openda

🐂 Club: RB Leipzig

💰 Price: €12.6M

📅 First three fixtures: B04 (A), VFB (H), FCU (A)

Openda might not have the same price tag and hype as Kane but underestimate him at your own peril. He is the direct replacement for Nkunku who was the club’s top scorer last season and is already starting to make a mark with seven goals in pre-season. Although Bayer Leverkusen isn’t the easiest game first up many managers will be trying to take advantage of his price as he is available on sale too. Don’t be surprised if he turns out to be one of the main challengers for the top-scorer title.

Midfielders

Jamal Musiala

🔴 Club: Bayern Munich

💰 Price: €15M

📅 First three fixtures: SVW (A), FCA (H), BMG (A)

After lots of outrage last season, Musiala is finally back to being a midfielder in Bundesliga and we finally have an option from Bayern’s midfield that doesn’t play as a defensive midfielder. Musiala is coming off his best season ever with 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 matches last season and the position change from forward means that you will now get some extra points for every attacking contribution that he makes. You might just want to be wary about how unpredictable Bayern are under Tuchel.

Julian Brandt

🐝 Club: Borussia Dortmund

💰 Price: €15M

📅 First three fixtures: KOE (H), BOC (A), FCH (H)

Brandt is another player who enjoyed the best ever year of his career last season and with no new attacking signing in sight for Dortmund, has the chance to replace last season’s success. He will also be on set pieces for the team as always and Dortmund probably have the three easiest fixtures to start the season with games against FC Köln, Bochum and Heidenheim so a Dortmund attacker is a must-have. Since Reus is fit and back in the starting XI, he is another good shout if you want an alternative BVB midfielder.

Václav Černý

🐺 Club: VfL Wolfsburg

💰 Price: €7.2M

📅 First three fixtures: FCH (H), KOE (A), TSG (A)

Černý is one of the few names that Wolfsburg have brought in this season and although he isn’t really a template pick, he did impressive last season at Twente in the Eredivisie with 14 goals and 13 assists in 36 matches and he has a good fixture in MD1 against newly promoted Heidenheim.

Nathan Ngoumou

🐎 Club: Borussia Mönchengladbach

💰 Price: €6M

📅 First three fixtures: FCA (A), B04 (H), FCB (H)

Ngoumou is another player that isn’t necessarily a template as he is an unknown quantity but it is hard to ignore him as he will be playing in an attacking role for a completely new-look team where he can establish himself and also the fact that it is almost impossible to find any better for 6M or less.

Defenders

Alphonso Davies

🔴 Club: Bayern Munich

💰 Price: €15M

📅 First three fixtures: SVW (A), FCA (H), BMG (A)

Not getting a Bayern defender is almost like asking for a red arrow and although I would’ve preferred Pavard as he saves you 3M and I think he is better if both are forced to play as full-backs. That being said, a lot of teams are circling around Bayern like sharks to buy Pavard, so he isn’t the safest option to have at the start of the season.

Josip Juranovic

⚒️ Club: Union Berlin

💰 Price: €10M

📅 First three fixtures: M05 (H), SVD (A), RBL (H)

Union Berlin were one of the surprises of last season finishing 4th which earned them a UCL spot while also having the best defence in the league conceding only 38 goals which was tied with Bayern Munich. Juranovic also turned out to be a revelation in Bundesliga Fantasy, quickly turning into one of the best options among defenders. He is still the only defender in the league that is an option for all set-pieces including penalties and with the team possibly signing Bonucci in addition to Gosens, expect them to keep plenty of cleansheets this year.

Alex Grimaldo

🦁 Club: Bayer Leverkusen

💰 Price: €10M

📅 First three fixtures: RBL (H), BMG (A), SVD (H)

Grimaldo is easily one of the most exciting defenders to come to the Bundesliga and his numbers speak for themselves. Five goals and nine assists in 33 matches for Benfica. And for an in-form Bayer Leverkusen team that aims to challenge for the title under a highly attacking coach, I can’t see how he won’t thrive in Bundesliga Fantasy. A bargain at 10M.

Joakim Mæhle

🐺 Club: VfL Wolfsburg

💰 Price: €8M

📅 First three fixtures: FCH (H), KOE (A), TSG (A)

If you have played Euro Fantasy before, you might know him as the wing-back who scored five goals in just nine matches for Denmark. Although he hasn’t been as successful at the club-level, the potential is there and Wolfsburg have been quietly building a competitive squad under Kovac so he could do well. Best sub-10M defender.

Goalkeeper

Marcel Schuhen

⚜️ Club: SV Darmstadt 98

💰 Price: €5M

📅 First three fixtures: SGE (A), FCU (H), B04 (A)

Goalkeeper is another position where the options are open but I personally prefer Darmstadt’s Marchel Schuhen. He had the highest save percentage in the 2. Bundesliga at 77.4% which is great because saves are the most important aspect of points-scoring for goalkeepers in Bundesliga Fantasy. Previous goalkeepers who led the 2. Bundesliga in save percentage and got promoted include Manuel Riemann (74.8% in 20-21) and Stefan Ortega (78.6% in 19-20) so it is a good sign.

Bench

Tomáš Čvančara

🐎 Club: Borussia Mönchengladbach

💰 Price: €10.8M

📅 First three fixtures: FCA (A), B04 (H), FCB (H)

Losing Hofmann, Stindl and Thuram in one window are big shoes to fill for Borussia and they will be hoping that Tomáš Čvančara clicks for them alongside Ngoumou and Plea. He scored 12 goals and three assists in the Czech league for Sparta Praha so it is yet to be seen what his numbers will translate to in the Bundesliga but he is on sale and will also be on penalties and free-kicks for the team.

Possible alternatives: Alassane Pléa, Sébastien Haller, Serhou Guirassy, Serge Gnabry, Victor Boniface and David Datro Fofana.

Marcel Sabitzer

🐝 Club: Borussia Dortmund

💰 Price: €9.9M

📅 First three fixtures: KOE (H), BOC (A), FCH (H)

He is predicted to play as a defensive midfielder but according to Dortmund fans, he will fill in for Bellingham which means that he will be a lot more attacking than he was for Bayern. I am not fully convinced but his ownership is already at 19%.

Possible alternatives: Vincenzo Grifo, Florian Wirtz, Jesper Lindstrøm, Jonas Hofmann, Jan-Niklas Beste and Dani Olmo.

Luca Netz

🐎 Club: Borussia Mönchengladbach

💰 Price: €7M

📅 First three fixtures: FCA (A), B04 (H), FCB (H)

Borussia face Leverkusen and Bayern after the first game against Augsburg but managers seem keen on Luca Netz who will be playing as a wing-back and expect it to be his breakout season.

Possible alternatives: Ramy Bensebaini, Lukas Kübler, Philipp Max, Jeremie Frimpong and Benjamin Pavard.

Sven Ulreich

🔴 Club: Bayern Munich

💰 Price: €5M

📅 First three fixtures: SVW (A), FCA (H), BMG (A)

I am not fully sold on Kevin Müller and the only other options we have at 5M are Sven Ulreich and Janis Blaswich who are both expected to be replaced in September. It is hard to say who will lose his spot first but based on the fixtures, I think Ulreich might do better.

Possible alternatives: Janis Blaswich, Finn Dahmen, Alexander Nübel and Frederik Rønnow.
