J.League Fantasy — GW17 Preview

J.League Fantasy expert Kurasawa shares the best player picks, expected lineups, odds, and more for gameweek 17.

J.League Fantasy — a game where you can transfer in a forward for a defender after the deadline, and not only that! Create a team now and beat the rest by scoring more points per gameweek on average!

Hello, everyone!

While all the top leagues have come to an end, the J.League is still a long way off with 18 gameweeks to go. Let’s see the dream team of the season so far.

Who could’ve thought that a wingback listed as a midfielder would be the highest-scoring player in the game?

J.League Gameweek 17 Match Win Probabilities

Current schedule

Vissel Kobe – Kawasaki Frontale game, which got postponed last week due to a typhoon, has been rearranged to the 22nd of July and will be part of GW21.

J.League Best Player Picks Gameweek 17

Yota Sato (Gamba Osaka, DEF, ¥4.25M) — here he is! Playing defender with the cheapest price. Seems like things are starting to click at Gamba and that should translate to fewer goals conceded and more clean sheets.

Gakuji Ota (Kyoto Sanga, GK, ¥6.75M) — for the last month I waited for the moment number 1 keeper Tomoya Wakahara would be dropped, because of his poor shot-stopping numbers. And two GWs ago it finally happened. I think the probability of Ota being as bad as Wakahara is low.

The next two pick advices are better to be followed from the next gameweek:

Yoshiaki Takagi (Albirex Niigata, MID, ¥7.25M) — Ryotaro Ito will join the Belgian side Sint-Truiden after this gameweek. He contributed (made a shot or a key pass) to 44.9% of all team shots. That’s a very high number, maybe the highest in J.League history. Therefore, without Ito, there should be more attacking onus on Takagi. But check on his status before getting him, he missed the last league game for an unknown reason.

Yuki Ohashi (Shonan Bellmare, FW, ¥6.00M) — remember him? It’s that one who scored a hat trick in GW1. Last week he returned from an injury that kept him out for almost 3 months. I expect him to start not this weekend, but afterwards. Good pick given Shonan played twice in GW18.

J.League Expected XIs Gameweek 17

You can check injuries, suspensions, and disappearances in this list.

Saturday

16:00 JST Yokohama F. Marinos v Kashiwa Reysol

19:00 JST Cerezo Osaka v Vissel Kobe

19:00 JST Sagan Tosu v Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo

Sunday

14:00 JST Albirex Niigata v Kyoto Sanga

Last game for Ryotaro Ito before he leaves for the Belgian side Sint-Truiden. Centre-back Michael James Fitzgerald, left-back Yuto Horigome and attacking midfielder Yoshiaki Takagi missed the previous league game for unknown reasons. There could be more clarity on Saturday if the club post-training pics on their Instagram, but so far the predicted XI is…

Left-back Kyo Sato got back in the matchday squad for the Emperor’s Cup last Wednesday. Not sure whether he starts this game by moving Shogo Asada back to CB.

16:00 JST Nagoya Grampus v Avispa Fukuoka

Not predicting a recently returned from long-term injury Yosuke Ideguchi to start this weekend as he started in the Emperor’s Cup on Wednesday.

18:00 JST Gamba Osaka v FC Tokyo

Left-back Keisuke Kurokawa was benched last time out because the coach didn’t want to lose air in his area. FC Tokyo is less threatening in aerial duels, so he should be back in the XI.

18:00 JST Kashima Antlers v Shonan Bellmare

Last week Yuki Ohashi returned from a hamstring injury that kept him out for almost 3 months coming off the bench in the 63rd minute. I don’t expect him to start this weekend, 30-45 minutes seem more likely. Akito Suzuki scored a hat-trick in Emperor’s Cup, why not reward him with another start?

18:30 JST Yokohama FC v Urawa Red Diamonds

19:00 JST Kawasaki Frontale v Sanfrecce Hiroshima

Expecting the same line-up that beat Kashiwa Reysol 2-0 in their last league game, their best game of the season, racking up around 3.5 xG.

J.League Fantasy — GW12 Preview

J.League Fantasy expert Kurasawa shares the best player picks, expected lineups, odds, and more for gameweek 12.

J.League Fantasy — a game where you can transfer in a forward for a defender after the deadline, and not only that! Create a team now and beat the rest by scoring more points per gameweek on average!

GW12 is the first double gameweek of the season with Sagan Tosu playing twice. But points from 2 games aren’t summarized in J.League Fantasy. Instead, the footballer will get points only from the match in which he scored the most points. Below are fixtures of GW12 with match-win probabilities. Note that Shonan Bellmare is on the bye.

Current schedule:

Speaking of pick advice, I could give you only one as I didn’t find another valuable pick. You could try your luck getting Rikuto Hirose (Kashima Antlers, DEF, ¥5.25M) or Daiju Sasaki (MID, Vissel Kobe, ¥5.00M) in your team, but I don’t think they are 100% nailed.

Kota Takai (Kawasaki Frontale, DEF, ¥5.25M) – before the season, the 18-year-old centre-back probably didn’t expect to be a regular. But 4 CBs ahead of him (one of which was recalled from his loan spell at J2 club) got injured and he was given a chance that he didn’t waste. 3 of the CBs are now back fit but Kota is still a starter. The Japanese word “Takai” (高い) means “high; expensive”, which speaks of his pick value rather than price.

J.League Expected XIs Gameweek 12

Saturday

14:00 JST Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo v FC Tokyo

19:00 JST Nagoya Grampus v Gamba Osaka

Sunday

13:00 JST Sanfrecce Hiroshima v Avispa Fukuoka

Super sub Douglas Vieira is suspended for this game after breaking a corner flag during a goal celebration.

Opta marked Yuya Yamagishi’s sub out as an ‘injury’. But it doesn’t seem serious, because there isn’t any talk about it on Twitter and news outlets.

14:00 JST Albirex Niigata v Kashiwa Reysol

14:00 JST Cerezo Osaka v Kashima Antlers

14:00 JST Vissel Kobe v Yokohama FC

14:00 JST Yokohama F. Marinos v Kyoto Sanga

Right winger Yan got his first league start of the season on Wednesday and scored 2 goals. If manager Kevin Muscat sends him back to the bench, he has no heart.

15:00 JST Kawasaki Frontale v Sagan Tosu

Wednesday

19:30 JST Urawa Red Diamonds v Sagan Tosu

Urawa Reds play the 2nd leg of the Asian Champions League final against Al-Hilal on Saturday (1st leg ended 1-1). Irrespective of the result, I don’t think coach Maciej Skorza would start the usual “Nishikawa; Sakai, Scholz, Hoibraten, Akimoto; Ito, Iwao; Okubo, Koizumi, Sekine; Koroki” eleven. Who’ll be given a rest, I don’t even want to guess.

J.League Fantasy — GW7 Preview

J.League Fantasy expert Kurasawa shares the best player picks, expected lineups, odds, and more for gameweek 7.

J.League Fantasy — a game where you can transfer in a forward for a defender after the deadline, and not only that! Create a team now and beat the rest by scoring more points per gameweek on average!

Let’s start this preview with the current schedule:

After GW9 Urawa Reds will miss the next three matchweeks because of the two-legged final of the Asian Champions League against Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia.

In terms of match-win probabilities, GW7 looks as follows:

J.League Fantasy Best Player Picks Gameweek 7

Itsuki Oda (Avispa Fukuoka, DEF, ¥6.25M) – the team has kept 2 clean sheets in 6 games, but it could’ve been three if it hadn’t been for bad luck. The left wingback was also unlucky not to get a goal contribution during this period. But what about first-choice LWB Masashi Kamekawa? – you may ask. Today it was revealed that he is going to recover only by September.

Kuryu Matsuki (FC Tokyo, MID, ¥5.50M) – seems like Kei Koizumi and Keigo Higashi play their best football at the double pivot of 4-2-3-1, where Matsuki is given a place at No.10 therefore he should be more involved in attack.

J.League Expected XIs Gameweek 7

You can check injuries, suspensions, and disappearances in this list.

Saturday

19:00 JST Yokohama F. Marinos v Yokohama FC

Takuma Nishimura is a big doubt for this game.

Goalkeeper Svend Brodersen played his first game of 2023 in J.League Сup on Wednesday after recovering from a concussion. Not sure whether he will be given 2nd start of the week.

Sunday

14:00 JST Cerezo Osaka v Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo

14:00 JST Sanfrecce Hiroshima v Sagan Tosu

Sanfrecce fielded almost all their regulars on Wednesday’s J.League Cup game, so expect a bit changed line-up.

14:00 JST Vissel Kobe v Albirex Niigata

Brazilian center-back Thuler got back in the matchday squad last week for the first time this year. But the back four of Sakai-Yamakawa-Honda-Hatsuse is doing great and there’s no point to fix what is not broken.

15:00 JST Avispa Fukuoka v Kyoto Sanga

15:00 JST FC Tokyo v Shonan Bellmare

15:00 JST Gamba Osaka v Kawasaki Frontale

Kwon Kyung-won, Yuki Yamamoto, and Issam Jebali got subbed off due to injuries in J.League Cup. How serious they are is unknown.

15:00 JST Nagoya Grampus v Urawa Red Diamonds

I was wrong when I posted a tweet last Sunday saying Kasper Junker is ineligible to play against his parent club. Turns out he is eligible, but only for this game. In the reverse fixture in GW24, he won’t be able to play at Urawa’s stadium.

19:00 JST Kashiwa Reysol v Kashima Antlers

Kashiwa coach Nelsinho himself doesn’t know his team’s best XI, let alone me. But let me guess.

J.League Fantasy: Injuries, Suspensions and Disappearances

J.League Fantasy expert Kurasawa shares the list of players that are doubtful or out in the J.League every gameweek.

This page will give you the latest info on unavailable players in the Japanese top flight.

In Japan situation with injury updates leaves much to be desired. Unlike Europe, where managers at pre-match press conferences present team news, Japanese teams are very secretive about it. You are rarely in the know that a player suddenly got injured before the game. Only after the end of the game without him club can post an injury report, but don’t expect they will do it fast. Sometimes it can take a couple of months for a club to shed light on a player’s status. That’s why you see the word “Disappearance” in the headline.

In terms of suspensions, a player misses one game, if he accumulates four warnings (yellow cards). But two yellows in one game are not counted as a warning. For a better understanding, see the picture below.

J.League Fantasy — GW3 Preview

J.League Fantasy expert Kurasawa shares the best player picks, expected lineups, odds, and more for gameweek 3.

J.League Fantasy — a game where you can transfer in a forward for a defender after the deadline, and not only that! Create a team now and beat the rest by scoring more points per gameweek on average!

Let’s start this preview with match-win probabilities.

J.League Fantasy Best Picks Gameweek 3

Kashifu Bangunagande (FC Tokyo, DEF, ¥7.25M) – The team from the Japanese capital conceded just eight shots from the likes of Urawa and Kashiwa. Of their back four, the 21-year-old left-back is the most likely to get an attacking return.

Daiju Sasaki (Vissel Kobe, MID, ¥5.00M) – It looks like Kobe will be lining up in a 4-4-2 formation, at least for the time being, with Sasaki on the right wing, which makes him a valuable pick. He already scored in the last game.

Friday

19:00 JST Yokohama F. Marinos v Sanfrecce Hiroshima

Saturday

13:00 JST Kawasaki Frontale v Shonan Bellmare

14:00 JST Albirex Niigata v Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo

In my season preview, I wrote about ruthless Matsuhashi Roulette. Niigata’s coach made four changes to the previous XI in the last game. Let’s see how accurate I’ll be.

14:00 JST Kyoto Sanga v FC Tokyo

14:00 JST Vissel Kobe v Gamba Osaka

14:00 JST Yokohama FC v Kashima Antlers

15:00 JST Avispa Fukuoka v Kashiwa Reysol

15:00 JST Sagan Tosu v Nagoya Grampus

Ryonosuke Kabayama came off the bench last game and turned into Messi for a minute scoring a spectacular goal. Naturally a left winger; he was playing right wingback last week.

15:00 JST Urawa Red Diamonds v Cerezo Osaka

Bryan Linssen was subbed off at halftime for Shinzo Koroki. Whether it was injury-forced substitution or a tactical decision, one thing is certain: the attack with Koroki looked more lively.
