GAFFR Team Preview – Breaking Down the Blades

With the beginning of the new Championship season right around the corner now seems like the perfect time to go into an in-depth breakdown of one of the new teams to GAFFR this season. That side being recently relegated outfit Sheffield United aka “The Blades.”

Sheffield United had a tough start to the 2010s in which the club was relegated to League One, English Football’s third-tier for the first time since 1989 but after Chris Wilder took over in 2016, The Blades had a rapid turn in fortunes achieving two promotions to reach the Premier League in just three years. United’s first season in the top flight was one that Blades fans couldn’t have dreamed of, seeing the club battle it out for European places before suffering a poor end to the season after the restart. However, in the 2020/21 season, Sheffield United never found form and were relegated comfortably.

This campaign, under new blood for the first time in five years the Blades will look to push for promotion back to England’s most prestigious league.

Key

⛔️ = Out

🟠 = Doubt

Sheffield United Goalkeepers in GAFFR

  • Aaron Ramsdale (£6.0M)
  • Wes Foderingham/Michael Verrips (£5.5M)
  • Jake Eastwood (£4.5M)

The goalkeeping department could be either the easiest or the hardest position when it comes to selecting a Sheffield United player, if Aaron Ramsdale was to leave the club the position would be a toss-up between both £5.5M GKs, however, it seems increasingly likely that the Blades will be able to keep a hold of Ramsdale which would make him the club’s clear #1 goalkeeper.

In the 2018/19 Championship season when United were promoted they were renowned for their strong defence, keeping 21 clean sheets and also managing another 13 shutouts in the 2019/20 Premier League season. Without the disruption of injuries and covid, the Blades look like a great bet to pick up a high number of clean sheets this time around, making Ramsdale a great choice for your GAFFR team.

Sheffield United Defenders in GAFFR

  • Enda Stevens (£6.5M) 🟠
  • George Baldock (£6.5M)
  • Chris Basham (£6.5M)
  • Jayden Bogle (£6.0M)
  • John Egan (£6.0M)
  • Jack O’Connell (£6.0M) ⛔️
  • Jack Robinson (£5.5M)
  • Max Lowe (£5.0M)
  • Rhys Norrington-Davies (£5.0M)
  • Kyron Gordon (£4.5M)

In defence is where things start to get complicated as far as Sheffield United options go. For starters, it is unknown how the Blades will even line up. When Slaviša Jokanović first took over as manager it seemed like the 5-3-2 left behind by Chris Wilder would stay in use, however, in a recent pre-season friendly Jokanovic experimented with a 4-3-3/4-3-1-2 to great effect. The fullback positions remain up in the air with both Jayden Bogle and George Baldock battling for the RB slot while Ben Osborn who is listed as a midfielder in GAFFR is likely to start the campaign at left-back ahead of Enda Stevens who is suffering from a fitness issue.

Out of all the options, John Egan is the only one I’d say is nailed with Jack Robinson also having a good chance to start alongside Egan at CB. If the Blades do play with a 5-3-2 both Chris Basham and Robinson would be nailed however there is too much uncertainty at the moment. Jayden Bogle is likely the most attacking option, having collected more xG per 90 than any other Blades defender last season (0.16).

Sheffield United Midfielders in GAFFR

  • John Fleck (£8.0M)
  • Oliver Burke (£7.5M)
  • Oliver Norwood (£7.5M)
  • Ben Osborn (£6.5M)
  • Luke Freeman (£6.5M)
  • Illiman N’diaye (£5.5M)
  • Sander Berge (£5.5M)
  • Femi Seriki (£4.5M)

While there is a decent quantity of options in midfield, some of them are lacking the potential to score points in GAFFR and we should rule these out. The first player I’d ignore is Ben Osborn, despite being a quality player, Osborn is likely to start the season playing as an LWB or LB and as he is listed as a midfielder he doesn’t receive as many points for a clean sheet which makes other defenders more viable options at this price point.

Luke Freeman is another I’d like to rule out as Freeman has suffered from his lack of fitness in the past year and is probably going to be nothing more than a backup option this season, the same reasoning can be applied to both Illiman N’diaye and Femi Seriki who will most likely not get many minutes this season.

This leaves us with just four players, John Fleck at £8.0M is the most expensive and I think others less going forward than cheaper options, not just at Sheffield United. Oliver Norwood while Sheffield United’s primary set-piece taker, is generally not very good at them picking up just 2 goal contributions in the past 2 seasons, Norwood could be on penalties this season however I think someone like Jeremie Bela who is penalty-taker for Birmingham City is a much better pick at £2M cheaper. Ultimately the only two that interest me are Burke and Berge. Oliver Burke is interesting because he has primarily played as a striker for Sheffield United and recorded the most xA (Expected Assists) per 90 of any Sheffield United player last season (0.19).

Sander Berge, however, is very exciting at just £5.5M, I speak with great confidence when I say that he is far too good for the Championship. Berge is the type of player that could cause major problems for sides this season when given the freedom to do so.

Sheffield United Forwards in GAFFR

  • Oliver McBurnie (£9.5M) 🟠
  • David McGoldrick (£9.0M)
  • Rhian Brewster (£8.5M)
  • Lys Mousset (£8.0M)
  • Billy Sharp (£8.0M)
  • Daniel Jebbison (£7.5M) 🟠

Out of all the Sheffield United forwards I’d honestly only recommend even thinking about 2 of them, these being David McGoldrick and Lys Mousset. David McGoldrick has been ever-present since signing for the Blades in 2018, finishing as the club’s top scorer last season and scoring 15 the last time Sheffield United were in the Championship. McGoldrick also has extreme creativity which could lead to a few assists here and there throughout the season.

Mousset, nonetheless, is a really exciting pick. He was Sheffield United’s joint-top scorer in 2019/20 and is an electric player on his day. However, his time with Sheffield United so far has been hampered by injuries but under new manager Slaviša Jokanović, “Moose” has had a good pre-season, scoring three goals in two games while looking like the Blades’ most dangerous attacking threat.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think the most consistent Blades assets are Egan (£6.0M, DEF) and McGoldrick (£9.0M, FWD). These two are mainstays in the Sheffield United side and will guarantee 90 minutes almost every week while picking up a good number of returns.

In my opinion, the options with the most potential upside are Bogle (£6.0M, DEF), Berge (£5.5M, MID) and Mousset (£8.0M). These three all have the ability to gain a high number of points depending on what role they play and/or whether they can nail down a starting berth at Sheffield United this season.

GAFFR Fantasy Championship: Tipster Team Reveal for Matchday 1

Hello readers, I would like to introduce myself first. My name is Taufik Noise, also known as Noise Team in various fantasy football games. Last season I played GAFFR and finished with a rank of 335th OR and a total tally of 3130 points. So, if you finished above me then I hope that you agree with my picks as well.

I want to try to share my draft for wading through fantasy GAFFR 2021/2022. Disclaimer, I made a draft based on last season’s performance, schedule, and budget. Also, I have selected a maximum of two players from one team as consistency has been rare at the start of the season.

Fantasy Championship Goalkeeper Picks

Sam Johnstone (6.5M) is the best keeper in my opinion as WBA are expected to keep the most clean sheets this season and Bradley Collins (5.0M) is my second choice for the goalkeeper position. In the Premier League last season, Johnstone was the goalkeeper who made the highest number of saves with 166. While I have Collins because of Barnsley’s performance at the end of last season which saw them make a late push for a playoff spot. I will choose Johnstone to fill the line-up on my draft.

Fantasy Championship Defender Picks

Sheffield United assets two seasons ago stole the attention in the Premier League and FPL namely George Baldock (6.5M) and Enda Stevens (6.5M), but last season they were powerless and had one of the worst campaigns in Premier League history. To navigate the Championship division, I think the performance of the two will return to the same as two seasons ago, but I don’t want to risk having two Sheffield United defenders, so just one of them seems enough and even though I’m conflicted about which one is the best, I choose Baldock (6.5M) for my team.

Then, the next choice is Perry Ng (5.0M). The reason for this choice is that Cardiff City’s schedule at the start of this season is quite easy (vs BAR, @BPL, @PET, vs MIL, vs BRI) and Ng was one of the main choices in GAFFR last season. Next is Tosin Adarabioyo (6.0M), although relegated Fulham kept a clean sheet just nine times last season, it is Adarabioyo who is the key to their defence as they look to challenge for promotion again.

Next is Scott Malone (6.5M) and his price is quite high but his contribution to the team last season was quite good even though the Millwall team last season was not good enough to push the team into the playoff zone. Lastly, Andre Wisdom (5.0M) is the last defender on my team as the Derby Country schedule is fairly easy in the first five matches (vs HUD, @PET, @HUL, vs MID, vs NOT). Although I would put him on the bench Wisdom could be the right substitute if a player was injured, suspended, or moved to another club.

GAFFR Midfield Picks

I chose Alex Mowatt (8.5M) because his performances with Barnsley last season were very good with eight goals and seven assists in the campaign and I hope that he can adapt well and directly contribute with goals and assists for West Bromwich Albion.

Ilias Chair (7.5M) is in my team since the first two games for QPR are favourable and also because QPR have made a good impression in their pre-season matches so far.

Mario Vrančić (6.5M) has been signed by Stoke to increase attack power and so far in pre-season he has appeared to be quite impactful even though at Norwich last season there were not as many opportunities as he does now with “The Potters.”

I believe Joe Rothwell (5.5M) can be a shrewd pick at 5.5M especially this season as Blackburn lost Harvey Elliott who completed his loan and returned to his parent club, Liverpool FC. I think Rothwell will fill Elliott’s role and I hope he will do well even though Blackburn’s schedule at the start of this season isn’t the best. So, I will wait and watch his performances before adding him to my lineup.

Fabio Carvalho (5.0M) is my pick for a low budget midfielder. Fulham’s assets are very tempting because the first 10 matches of the schedule are relatively easy. I wanted to include the latest Fulham FC signing Harry Wilson (9.5M) to my team but the price was so high that it made my team’s balance shaky. Carvalho himself is not a bad choice I believe and at the end of the Premier League last season he had the opportunity to play four times and he scored one goal.

GAFFR Forward Picks

Kieffer Moore (10.0M) is the first forward in my team over Adam Armstrong (11.0M) and Dominic Solanke (11.0M) because of Cardiff’s fantastic schedule to start the season compared to Blackburn’s and Bournemouth’s schedule. Moore was also one of the best strikers in GAFFR last season with 20 goals in 42 games.

I have David McGoldrick (9.0M) in my team because I believe Sheffield can do a lot in the Championship this season. With so many choices in the forward department for the blades, I think McGoldrick will still be the first choice as he has experience on his side and the fact that he was their top goal-scorer last season with nine goals to his name.

I tried to find a cheap striker and my realistic choice fell to Yakou Méïté (6.5M). His price is quite tempting for someone who had 12 goals in 25 games last season and Reading’s schedule is quite good too. However, in Reading’s first match against Stoke, I will put Meite on the bench because I also have a Stoke player, Vrančić.

Tipster Team for Matchday 1

That’s all from me, I think this draft is 80% of the final draft, still subject to change depending on the incoming activity in the transfer window of players that interest me. Thank you for reading my first article for the website. See you soon.

GAFFR Fantasy Championship: Pricing Brackets & Team Structures

Getting your team’s pricing structure right is arguably one of the most important aspects of any Fantasy game, whether that be FPL, GAFFR.io or so on. Making the right choices on where to spend the bulk of your initial budget could potentially be the defining factor between a good and great season so in this article I will be dissecting a few popular strategies and giving my take on the benefits of each.

GAFFR Fantasy Team Structures

Before we truly get started on team structure, I obviously have to lay out some price brackets to base our structure on. Here are my personal brackets for the 21/22 GAFFR season (disclaimer: these numbers are completely arbitrary and you may feel free to disagree with some of them).

GK/DEF:

Enabler – £4.0M

Budget – £4.5M

Mid-Range – £5.0M-£5.5M

Premium – £6.0M+

MID:

Enabler – £4.5M

Budget – £5.0M-£6.5M

Mid-Range – £7.0M-£8.5M

Premium – £9.0M+

FWD:

Enabler – £4.5M-£5.0M

Budget – £5.5M-£6.5M

Mid-Range – £7.0M-£9.0M

Premium – £9.5M+

Using these pricing ranges we can start to develop an idea of what our team might look like and where our budget will be spent based on some different plans we may have in mind. So let’s delve into them:

All-Out Attack

Starting this off we will look at a strategy I have seen talked about quite a lot in the GAFFR community over the current pre-season. The clue is in the name, this team structure places a very large chunk of your budget into the most attacking options available. This includes having three premiums as your striker options which does mean you will probably be aiming to play a three striker formation for the entirety of the campaign and this is seemingly favourable this season. An example of this structure could be:

GK: Budget, Enabler

DEF: Premium, Mid-Range, Mid-Range, Budget, Enabler

MID: Premium, Mid-Range, Budget, Budget, Enabler

FWD: 3x Premium

Formation(s): 3-4-3, 4-3-3, 5-2-3

As you can see, this is surprisingly balanced and can play any three striker formation depending on fixtures in any Matchday. In my opinion, this is probably the most popular pricing strategy available and that’s deserved. In GAFFR, all positions receive the same points for scoring a goal, as opposed to other fantasy games where DEFs and MIDs get more than FWDs, because of this it is favourable to have a premium FWD than a premium MID as they get the same amount of points for something the FWD is likelier to achieve.

If you are using this structure you should look at assist threats when it comes to your MID options as MIDs get an extra point for assists in GAFFR. The really surprising thing is how much you have left to spend on your defence. A draft of a team following this structuring features four DEFs who I would class as having good chances for clean sheets, two of whom have positive attacking potential.

Some players to target

  • Kieffer Moore – FWD – £10.0M – CAR
  • Aleksandr Mitrovic – FWD – £11.0M – FUL
  • Callum O’Hare – MID – £5.0M – COV
  • Andy Yiadom – DEF – £5.0M – REA
  • John Swift – MID – £6.5M – REA

Plum Pudding Model

The aptly named plum pudding model does what it says on the tin, puts everything in the middle. In this strategy, you will be looking to bulk out your squad with the highest-end midfield options in the game and likely have five midfielders playing every gameweek. Here is what this team could look like:

GK: Budget, Enabler

DEF: 3x Mid-Range, Budget, Enabler

MID: 3x Premium, (Higher) Mid-Range, (Higher) Mid-Range

FWD: (Higher) Mid-Range, Mid-Range, Enabler

Formation(s): 3-5-2

In all honesty, this makes for a pretty unbalanced team however it does have its positives. Because of the options in midfield, you are guaranteed to have at least one, if not multiple, ways into the best attacks in the league through midfield players, which are sure to score points through the season.

Some players to target

  • Harry Wilson – MID – £9.5M – FUL
  • Arnaut Danjuma – MID – £10.0M – BOU
  • Jamal Lowe – MID – £8.5M – SWA
  • Josh Koroma – FWD – £8.0M – HUD
  • Perry Ng – DEF – £5.0M – CAR

Template Team for the Plum Pudding Model

Abandon The MIDs

Another system with a straightforward name, this plan is aimed mainly towards getting clean sheets and goals. Unlike the other two mentioned, this is not a viable set-and-forget strategy due to a lot of rotation with our MIDs and targeting clean sheets for your DEFs which does become quite reliant on fixtures. Here’s what a draft to begin the season may look like:

GK: Premium, Enabler

DEF: 3x Premium, Mid-Range, Mid-Range

MID: (Higher) Mid-Range, 4x Budget

FWD: Premium, Premium, (Higher) Mid-Range

Formation(s): 5-2-3

This strategy, while sounding quite bizarre, has actually proven to be pretty popular among GAFFR players and once you look into it, you can see why. To put it bluntly, some DEFs and most high-end FWDs are better value than MIDs due to the GAFFR scoring system. The main thing with this tactic is obviously rotation, playing with 5-2-3 means you have to elect to bench three of your MIDs so every gameweek you want to have at least two MIDs with a good fixture. This also goes for your DEFs, the best team aren’t necessarily going to get the most clean sheets during a given period of time so we will look towards teams with better fixtures which means no WBA DEFs (at least not from the start).

Teams To Target

Reading – STO (A), PRE (H), BRI (H), COV (A), HUD (A),

Sheffield United – BIR (H), SWA (A), WBA (A), HUD (H), LUT (A), PET (H), PRE (H)

Stoke City – REA (H), BIR (A), SWA (A), NOT (H), FUL (A), HUD (H)

Fulham – MID (H), HUD (A), MIL (A), HUL (H), STO (H), BPL (A), BIR (A)

Preston North End – HUL (H), REA (A), HUD (A), PET (H), SWA (H), BRI (A)

GAFFR Fantasy Championship: The Art of the 4.0M Defender

Despite mainly being used as an enabler, the 4.0M defender is one of the most mythical positions in the GAFFR Fantasy community. Defenders at this price have the potential to be anywhere from bench-warmers who will play next to zero minutes to OOP (Out Of Position) gems who will be valuable budget busters (e.g., Lundstram 19/20), and because of the underrated upside the players in this price slot can have, I feel that it is essential to make sure we can find the best options from this range. In this article, I will go over some players who I consider to be good picks in this bracket for the 21/22 GAFFR Fantasy Championship season.

Demetri Mitchell (Blackpool)

Demetri Mitchell’s stats in the 20/21 season for Blackpool in League One

🔄 Appearances (Subs): 15 (20)

🕒 Minutes Played: 1,546

⚽ Goals: 1

🎯 Assists: 4

⛔ Clean Sheets: 4

First 5 Fixtures:

  • Bristol City (A)
  • Cardiff City (H)
  • Coventry City (H)
  • AFC Bournemouth (A)
  • Millwall (A)

Despite not always being first-choice for Blackpool last season Demetri Mitchell has made a very good case for a place in the starting 11. The 24-year-old has had a fantastic start to pre-season, scoring twice in as many games after a good end to the last campaign. In my opinion, Mitchell is likely to be the 4.0M defender who plays the furthest forward for their side with 8 of his 15 starts last season being as a winger which gives him more of a license to bomb forward and get involved in the Blackpool attack. The biggest risk with Mitchell is that he is an injury concern with a long history of being on the sidelines and nobody wants to waste a free transfer on their 4.0M defender.

Mitchell has decent fixtures to start the campaign with games against Bristol City and Coventry and has the best potential for clean sheets and an attacking return. For me, Bristol City is one of the weakest sides in the Championship this season and definitely a side you should be looking to target in GAFFR. Last season they had the least Expected Goals For (39.3) and the most Expect Goals Against (74.8).

Clarke Oduor (Barnsley)

Clarke Oduor’s stats in the 20/21 season for Barnsley in the Championship

🔄 Appearances (Subs): 5 (6)

🕒 Minutes Played: 553

First 5 Fixtures:

  • Cardiff City (A)
  • Coventry City (H)
  • Luton Town (H)
  • QPR (A)
  • Birmingham City (H)

Kenyan international Clarke Oduor wasn’t favoured last season at Barnsley but the fans of the Tykes have hopes that this could be the former Leeds man’s year. The pacey 22-year-old is a fan favourite at Oakwell and is another player who has started preseason on a good note, bagging a goal vs Sheffield Wednesday. Odour has the edge over someone like Mitchell as he does have crucial Championship experience under his belt. If he can cement a place in the starting XI under new manager Markus Schopp, Oduor would definitely be the best GAFFR pick at 4.0M in my opinion however at the minute it is unknown how many times he will feature.

Should Oduor get a starting berth he will have pretty good fixtures to start the campaign, three home games is always a good start and their home fixtures also happen to be favourable for clean sheets, while they don’t face any particularly strong defences which could also lead to the odd attacking return for Barnsley’s wide players.

Peter Kioso (Luton Town)

Peter Kioso’s stats in the 20/21 season for Northampton Town in League One and Bolton Wanderers in League Two

🔄 Appearances (Subs): 34

🕒 Minutes Played: 3,004

⚽ Goals: 6

🎯 Assists: 2

⛔ Clean Sheets: 9 (Northampton Town/League One), 4 (Bolton/League Two)

First 5 Fixtures:

  • Peterborough United (H)
  • West Brom (A)
  • Barnsley (A)
  • Birmingham City (H)
  • Sheffield United (H)

Before I go on, I should add that Kioso’s playing time was split between League One and Two last season which would obviously require him to make a huge step-up to the Championship. As far as I can tell, Kioso had the most attacking returns out of any 4.0M defenders last season with eight, obviously at a lower level as I previously mentioned but it is still impressive. However, he also had one of the worst disciplinary records in the league. Kioso is likely to be back up to James Bree (4.5M, DEF) but his impressive loans spells give him a chance for minutes in an ever-improving Luton side.

As far as fixtures go this won’t be an easy start to the season for Luton who play two of the three relegated sides in the first five matchdays. They do have Peterborough and Birmingham at home which could potentially be games to target for early clean sheets.

Kyle McFadzean (Coventry City)

Kyle McFadzean’s stats in the 20/21 season for Coventry City in League One

🔄 Appearances (Subs): 37 (1)

🕒 Minutes Played: 3,292

⚽ Goals: 2

🎯 Assists: 1

⛔ Clean Sheets: 10

First 5 Fixtures:

  • Nottingham Forest (H)
  • Barnsley (A)
  • Blackpool (A)
  • Reading (H)
  • QPR (A)

If you’re content with a 4.0M defender who is just going to sit on your bench and collect 2 points on most weeks, then centre back Kyle McFadzean is your man. Despite being 34, McFadzean is likely going to be the player on this list who collects the most minutes this campaign however with reduced attacking potential compared to some other options. He may pop up with a goal or two with headers from corners so he may be a shrewd pick. The main negative point surrounding McFadzean is that aged 34 he is having to transition his game which is leading to more fouls and therefore more bookings.

As for fixtures, McFadzean could likely pick up a clean sheet or two in Coventry’s opening run with matches against Nottingham Forest and Blackpool the games where I see Coventry could keep a clean sheet.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there aren’t too many 4.0M options that will likely get you a lot of points but you can’t expect much from a player that virtually costs nothing. I think for the most part the GAFFR bosses have done a very good job of pricing, particularly in this price range. None of the 4.0M options who are considered “nailed” are attack-minded players which I think is a big positive as a starting 4.0 full-back would be pretty over-powered and would take away the choice we have to make. Personally, I would rank the four GAFFR assets I listed as follows:

  1. Demetri Mitchell
  2. Kyle McFadzean
  3. Clarke Odour
  4. Peter Kioso

I hope this little guide has helped you decide on a pick for your GAFFR 21/22 team and remember, never underestimate the enablers. Thank you for reading!

GAFFR Fantasy Championship Guide: How to Play, Rules and Tips to Get You Started

GAFFR.io – the EFL Championship Fantasy Manager Game that revolves around the second division of English football is back for season two and we have created a guide that includes how to play the game, rules and tips to get you started.

GAFFR Fantasy Rules and Substitutions

In GAFFR, you will have a squad of 15 players in your team with one free transfer each week to replace any player in your squad with a player who plays in the same position within the budget constraints.

Breakdown of your 15 man squad:

  • 2 Goalkeepers
  • 5 Defenders
  • 5 Midfielders
  • 3 Forwards

You will have a bank balance of 100 million to spend on your virtual squad and the maximum number of players you can select from each team has been set to three.

Formations

For each gameweek, you must have one starting keeper and 10 outfield players. You can choose any formation, as long as you’ve picked one goalkeeper, at least three defenders, at least two midfielders and at least one forward in your starting XI. Formations can also be changed midweek as you make substitutions. The valid formations in the game are:

  • 3-4-3
  • 3-5-2
  • 4-4-2
  • 4-5-1
  • 5-2-3
  • 5-3-2
  • 5-4-1

Price Changes

Price changes depend on a player’s performance, so it directly affects whether his price will rise or fall. The price changes will take place on the day after the final match of the gameweek. For example, if the last match of a gameweek is on a Saturday, the changes will occur on Tuesday morning around 3 AM (presumably GMT).

GAFFR Fantasy Transfers

Fantasy managers will have unlimited transfers until the first matchday begins on Saturday, 7th August 2021 and after this, you can make one free transfer each week. If a player you transfer in costs less than the player you transferred out, the balance amount will be credited to your bank.

Transfers will be carry forwarded to the next week as long as you don’t use all the available transfers in the gameweek but you can never have more than two free transfers a week which is the limit unless you are playing a boost.

There is no limit on the number of transfers you can make each matchday but every additional transfer beyond the free transfers available will incur a hit of -4 points from your score in the next gameweek.

GAFFR Fantasy Captains

Gaffr.io is the only Fantasy Manager game that lets you have three captains instead of the usual one or two. You have an emergency captain along with your main captain and the vice-captain.

Captain

Your captain will double his points if he plays during the matchday.

Vice-Captain

A vice-captain’s points are multiplied by 1.5x each week and it is rounded if the result is not a whole number. For example, A vice-captain who scores 5 would finish on 7 after the multiplier has been added.

Emergency Captain

An emergency captain comes in if your captain or vice-captain if either does not play a single minute during the matchday. The multiplier here depends on which captain does not play. For example: if your captain does not play then the emergency captain’s points will be multiplied by 2x or multiplied by 1.5x if the vice-captain does not play. The captain’s role is prioritised here and if an emergency captain receives double points then there will be no vice-captain.

GAFFR Fantasy Substitutions

Substitutions in GAFFR work similarly to FPL. You can set the order of the bench and if a player does not play a single minute in your starting XI, you will get the player off the bench according to the priority you have set from left to right or a player in a similar position and maintains a valid formation.

For example, if you’re playing a 4-5-1 formation and your forward does not play, he can only be replaced by another forward on the bench according to the order of the bench to maintain a valid formation. Whereas if your formation is the same and a midfielder does not play, you will get a defender or a forward off the bench and the formation will change to a 5-4-1 or 4-4-2.

Tip: It is best to have starting players on your bench instead of scrubs that barely see any minutes so that you can have 11 players for a matchday in case there are any postponements, injuries or other issues. It will also help you capitalize on double gameweeks with additional players who might start multiple games.

GAFFR Fantasy Boosts

Gaffr Fantasy has multiple boosts or chips that are unique and give you various opportunities throughout the season to get an edge over your opponent or to close the gap between your mini-league rivals. There is a pool of six boosts in total and you can choose any three that suits you best at any time but you can only play one boost per round.

The tournament is divided into three phases and you will have three boosts per phase (nine in total) that will refresh every 15 gameweeks to play across the season.

  • Gameweeks 1 – 15
  • Gameweeks 16 – 30
  • Gameweeks 31 – 46

Not every pool will have the same boosts so you cannot play the multi captain and overhaul boosts more than twice in a season.

Overhaul

You can make unlimited transfers to your squad within the limitations of your budget similar to a wildcard. The changes made to your squad are permanent and your team will not revert back to your pre-overhaul squad the next gameweek.

Super Subs

The points scored by the players on your bench including the goalkeeper will be counted to your total for the gameweek just like a bench boost.

Captain Fantastic

Your captain’s score will be tripled and your vice-captain’s score doubled but the same emergency captain rules will apply.

Park the Bus

As the name suggests, this chip is meant for defenders and the points for all the defenders in your XI will be doubled. The only catch is that you won’t have any captains if you activate this boost so use it wisely.

Midfield Generals

The points for all your midfielders will be multiplied by 1.5x and rounded. No captain multiplier will be applied for any player or position similar to the “Park the Bus” boost.

Multi Captain

Your captain, vice-captain and emergency captain’s points will be doubled.

Optimal Captain

The highest-scoring players in your starting XI will be selected as the optimal captains (captain, vice-captain and emergency captain according to the points scored) and their points will be multiplied accordingly. Only players in the starting XI are included.

Goalfest

Every goal scored by a player in your starting XI adds another five points to your total score for the week. This includes penalties and goals scored by substitutes that come off the bench when a player does not play in your eleven. Captain multipliers do not apply to the five-point bonus.

Midfield Dynamos

Instead of a 1.5x multiplier of the “Midfield Generals” boost, this boost adds a 2x multiplier to all the midfielders in your XI. No captain multipliers are applied for any player or position.

Last Ditch

In this chip, a 3x multiplier will be applied to all your forwards in the starting XI but all your defenders and the goalkeeper will score zero points. No captain multiplier will be applied for any player or position.

Jeepers Keepers

This boost is especially for keepers and activating it will count the scores of both of your keepers to the total in addition to some bonus:

  • +2 points per clean sheet per half.
  • +3 points per save.
  • +10 points per penalty save.

You will have captains if you use this boost but captain multipliers do not apply to the bonus scores.

Tip: This chip might not seem like much at first glance but if played right it can be highly rewarding and it best to use it when both of your keepers are facing tough opposition and are expected to save lots of shots.

Away Day

The points of players in your starting XI who are playing away for the matchday are doubled. No captain multipliers apply to any players.

GAFFR Fantasy Scoring Rules

The game has a performance-based scoring system that rewards bonus points to players for their production on the pitch rather than just awarding points based on goals/assist/clean sheets and penalty saves. The players will score points according to the following table:

GAFFR Fantasy Performance Points (Bonus)

Each player’s performance will be awarded according to the performance points table at the end of the match. The four highest-rated players from each match will receive +4, +3, +2 and +1 points respectively. If there is a tie for bonus points then all the players at that rank will receive the same points at that level. A minimum of four players are awarded performance points from a game. For example, if four players have the same rank/rating then all of them will receive +4 points and no further performance points will be awarded.

PlayerRatingPoints

B10+4
C9+3
D8+2

In this example, there is a tie for the highest rating so players A and B will receive +4. Player C has the second-highest rating and will receive +3. To fulfil the quota of four players minimum who will receive performance points, the next players D, E and F who are tied will receive +2 points each.
