Bundesliga Fantasy Player Rankings: Matchday 4

A long International Break has finally come to an end and we won’t be disturbed by it for another month at least. It brings with it heavy rotation and some missing big names. This week we have 10 teams for the first game of the week at 1:30PM GMT. Find out who tops our rankings for matchday 4:

Note: Hoffenheim players Andrej Kramarić and Kasim Adams have tested positive for Covid-19 whereas Pavel Kadeřábek has family members who tested positive so he will not participate against Dortmund.

Joshua Kimmich is awaiting the birth of his 2nd child so he won’t join the squad against Arminia Bielefield.

Bundesliga Fantasy Differential Picks: Matchday 4

Selecting the right differentials is important to gaining ranks but thanks to unlimited transfers, people will lean more towards the template players. This makes it easier to select a lowly owned player that might have been overlooked by others. Here are our differentials:

Forwards

 

Lucas Alario: He has always impressed in whatever limited time he gets but could never cement his place in the starting XI due to Volland and now Schick. Now that Schick is injured, he is guaranteed starting minutes and could be a difference-maker against a Mainz team that let Union Berlin score 4. Their highest in a Bundesliga game.

Matheus Cunha: Hertha has scored the 2nd highest goals so far just behind Bayern and tied with Leipzig. During this period, Cunha has been their most dangerous player scoring and assisting against Bremen and Bayern. They last lost at home against Stuttgart back in 2013.

Midfielders

 

Vincenzo Grifo: Freiburg is a very strong team on set pieces and now they go up against Bremen which was the worst set-piece defending team last season. His corner kicks and free kicks could be a menace this week.

Defenders

 

Maximilian Mittelstädt: He has contributed with 2 assists while playing OOP on the left-wing so far and could return against Stuttgart this week. A team which is weak in defending against attacks down the wing and set pieces, something that Mittelstädt shares responsibility in.

Almamy Toure: This man quietly replaced Danny Da Costa as right-wing back and has been overlooked since then. He is a threat down the wing and is a steady source of bonus points scoring 12 and 8 in his last two games. There is also a good chance that Frankfurt keeps a clean sheet against Koln.

Goalkeeper

 

Alexander Schwolow: He averages 5 shots saved every game and an attacking team like Stuttgart with an average of 18 shots per game should give him some easy saves.

Bundesliga Fantasy Must Have/Template Players On A Wildcard

Does the wildcard make it confusing to differentiate the have from the have-nots? Don’t worry, in this article we look at players that are going to be popular picks and appear in a lot of the top teams in the game.

Forwards

 

Robert Lewandowski: At the end of Matchday 3 he was the most owned player at 73%. I don’t expect the wildcard to change that. He has had another stellar start to the season with 5 goals and 2 assists in 2 starts. This includes the 4 goals he scored in the thrilling  4-3 win against Hertha. He also scored a hattrick at the start of last season. Talk about a man who is always in form.

Erling Braut Håland: He is currently the best Dortmund asset to get along with Giovanni Reyna. A proper goal-scoring machine, he has continued his good form in the international break as well.

Andrej Kramarić: His goal-scoring antics won’t go unnoticed when he is at the top of the goal-scoring charts having scored in each game so far. Including a hattrick against Koln in Matchday 1. Also scored 4 goals against Dortmund last time out but I don’t think people have forgotten that either.

Midfielders

 

Jadon Sancho: The absence of some premium midfielders leaves a lot of money in the bank. So Sancho might be the only premium midfielder you can splurge all that cash on.

Giovanni Reyna: Another player from Dortmund, he is easily the best sub 10M midfielder there is. There is always some doubt of rotation because of Brandt but his recent performances including the hattrick of assists against Freiburg should do him good. His partnership with Håland and the absence of Wirtz makes it easier to select him.

Daichi Kamada: When he isn’t scoring or assisting he is getting bonus points. When he does, he also gets bonus points. His good floor combined with his ceiling makes him the midfielder with highest points so far.

Jonas Hofmann: Now some might argue that Stindl is the better option here but Hofmann has done better than him in every game. I’d put money on him scoring or assisting rather than Stindl scoring penalties.

Defenders

 

Angeliño: Easily the best option from RB Leipzig, he might chip in with a goal as well as he did in the last game against Schalke where he ended up with 23 points.

Ludwig Augustinsson: A very attacking fullback, he is always on the lookout for a goal or assist. He is also possibly the best option under 10M if you look at it long term.

Christopher Trimmel: He had a bad start to the season but bounced back with 2 assists against Mainz. People have noticed it and I expect to see him on a lot more teams as he plays Schalke next.

I tried to keep the value of the template team under 150M but if you have the cash then the template player could possibly be Alphonso Davies or Raphaël Guerreiro over Augustinsson or Trimmel.

Goalkeepers

 

Rafał Gikiewicz: He has been a real star so far this season saving 94% of the shots he has faced and has quickly seen his value rise to 7.7M. Hoping that a budget keeper gives you points might not work this time and you will have to dive a bit deeper into your pockets. The difference between Muller and Gikiewicz has been 27 points in 3 games.

Bench

 

Frederik Rønnow: The injury to Fahrmann will see Rønnow get some game time. Now he plays for Schalke but it is better than having a scrub keeper. If you’re lucky, he turns into a hidden gem at 1.8M

Iago: Augsburg has conceded just one goal so far and let the opponents create no big chances. If the Augsburg defence has turned around for good then Iago will remain the best defensive option under 6M.

Anderson Lucoqui: He is the cheapest defensive starter at 1.9M and might keep a clean sheet every now and then as Arminia Bielefield play defensive. Marc-Oliver Kempf is an honourable mention for those who can spend.

Jean-Manuel Mbom: He is the only player other than Lucoqui who will start at 1.3M and you could probably use the cash elsewhere.

Bundesliga Fantasy Player Rankings: Matchday 3

Matchday 2 is in the books. A topsy-turvy week full of shocking results where the top 4 failed to register a win and the rise of some unlikely heroes who have shown us great promise for the upcoming season. MD 3 might not have the most entertaining fixtures but there are points to be won and ranks to be climbed. Let’s look at who made the cut to our rankings this week!

Note: Bayern Munich players Muller, Kimmich, Davies, Sule, Hernandez and Pavard played the entire match against Borussia Dortmund in the Supercup final on Wednesday. From the opposing team, Passlack, Delaney, Dahoud, Can, Akanji and Hitz went all the way.

Similarly, Wolfsburg players Weghorst, Mehmedi, Steffen, Arnold, Otavio, Lacroix, Guilavogui and Rousillon played till the full time in the 2-1 loss AEK Athens in the Europa League Qualifiers on Thursday.

Bundesliga Fantasy Player Rankings: Matchday 2

Matchday 1 is in the books. An action-packed week full of goal-heavy games but it ended with the final game being a goalless draw. Matchday 2 promises another exciting week of Bundesliga football with mostly stronger teams playing away. Let’s look at who made the cut to our rankings this week!

Bundesliga Fantasy: Tactical Fantasy Analysis

Matchday 1 was an exciting end to the first week of the season and now we look at players who stood out in our tactical fantasy analysis.

Which players stand out from Bayern Munich?

With the addition of Sané and removal of Thiago, Bayern has adopted an even more vertical attacking style with an emphasis on collecting the ball in the half-spaces and redistributing it almost immediately to the players running into space in behind the backline. This adaption is especially useful in a league with an emphasis on pressing. Teams who aren’t able to effectively press, in tandem with a high line will be very susceptible to players with pace. What does this mean for your fantasy team? Gnabry While he may outscore Lewandowski over the course of a season, Gnabry thrives in this system as he will be more of a cf/striker than winger and have the opportunity to use his strengths of pace and positioning. Of the two “wingers” Gnabry will have more license to shoot than to create. This may see decreased output from muller though, in terms of scoring, Gnabry’s goal-scoring ceiling will he hampered by rotation and injury risk.

Other players Kimmich v Goretzka, Kimmich gets my vote over Goretzka for a number of reasons.

1. Set piece taker

2. No competition in his position as Goretzka still has to cede time to Tolisso

3. Bigger injury risk

4. Better direct passer leading to an assist even if he drifts to the wide right channel at times (see the assist for Coman’s goal in the UCL final)

The best Bayern Munich fullback

Bayern’s fullbacks With the addition of Sane and the conversion of Kimmich to a dm, the fullbacks mainly will probably be used to create width and maintain passing options in the 2nd and 3rd 3rds of the pitch. I’m not sure where there assists and goals come from this season especially with the loss of Perisic who created shots from headers and the decreasing reliance on crossing. Pavard may be the better option since currently, he remains the only option at right-back. Davies has to compete with Lucas in a condensed season where rotation will be a more common occurrence.

Fahrmann the way to go?

Schalke’s schedule is the most beneficial fantasy-wise for this team. Gun to my head. If you have the budget, Fahrmann makes a great rotation option if you can afford two goalkeepers. Paciencia looked sharp but I’d wait till Schalke have an “easier” schedule or gets the coaches to bounce as Wagner maybe the 1st coach out this season. By that time his value would’ve dropped so he may become a budget option.
