Bundesliga Fantasy Differential Picks: Matchday 11

Ahead of matchday 11 in Bundesliga Fantasy, we look at players that are low on ownership and high on potential that could help you improve your rank. These are our differential picks for the week:

Forwards

Ermedin Demirović Vs Arminia Bielefeld (H)

Freiburg in the last two games have taken the lead just to end up drawing – 1-1 Vs Augsburg and 2-2 Vs Borussia.. They are yet to win a game and will be desperate to snatch three points from Arminia in a six-pointer. Bosnian striker Ermedin Demirović was very impressive in the last game against Borussia where he registered four shots and two key passes but was unlucky to not be involved in a goal. His effort got him a generous 10 points just through bonus points. Freiburg will be hoping that he is on target this time and he should have plenty of chances to do so with players such as Grifo and Günter to assist him.

Florian Niederlechner Vs Schalke (H)

The ultimate boom or bust pick for the week, he is yet to get off the mark this season but the man with 13 goals and eight assists in 33 games last season is easily capable of scoring a goal or two on his day. Schalke is simply the worst defense in the league averaging 3.1 goals conceded per game and if Augsburg are to put a few goals past them, then Niederlechner has a good of ending his goal drought.

Midfielders

Jamal Musiala Vs FC Union Berlin (A)

The Germany-born England youth international must be feeling at home Bayern Munich after breaking records such as becoming the Bavarian club’s all-time-youngest goal scorer after scoring against Schalke on MD1 at just 17 years and 205 days. He has scored another two goals since then, against Frankfurt and the equalizing goal against RB Leipzig last week. There is a lack of attacking options in the Bayern midfield for fantasy after the large mishmash of positions this season but Musiala is a bright spot and offers a genuine goal-scoring threat against Union Berlin at just 1.9M.

Ritsu Doan Vs SC Freiburg (A)

Only Schalke has conceded more shots (18.3 shots conceded per game) than Freiburg (15.7 shots conceded per game). Freiburg has also conceded the third most goals this season after Schalke and Mainz so it is difficult to imagine Arminia not scoring against them. The Japanese midfielder put in a brilliant display against Mainz with a goal and assist to go with five key passes. He is consistently the most player dangerous for Arminia and if Freiburg concedes shots at the same rate then Doan might eventually finish one. If not, he will still have a good amount of bonus for it.

Defenders

Marcel Halstenberg Vs SV Werder Bremen (H)

The absence of Angeliño due to rest will be a big loss for his fantasy owners because no other defender can match his goal involvements but Halstenberg is still a worthy replacement for the Spaniard. It is expected that he plays as a wing-back rather than centre-back where he has been deployed in recent games so that increases his attacking threat and bonus potential considerably. He will also be on set-piece duties for a team that has scored the most goals from penalties in the league so far with four. Leipzig have also conceded the least goals so far this season with just nine. His potential makes him a great differential option for a week till Angeliño is back.

Goalkeeper

Koen Casteels Vs Eintracht Frankfurt (H)

There aren’t too many differential goalkeepers this week but Casteels stands out because of his potential to get save points against an attacking Frankfurt team and the fact that he plays first this week.

My prediction: 2-1

Joker

I think a Kruse-less Union Berlin might struggle against Bayern Munich. Especially to score goals. Hence, Union Berlin 0-3 Bayern Munich is my joker pick for the pick. Another honourable mention is RB Leipzig 3-0 Werder Bremen.

Bundesliga Fantasy Player Rankings: Matchday 11

The arrival of matchday 11 in Bundesliga Fantasy signals the start of the “Englische Woche” – a run of matchdays where a team plays thrice in a week from weekend to midweek to the weekend again. The relief from UCL and Europa games is short-lived as another hectic schedule awaits us. These are our Bundesliga fantasy player rankings for the week:

Forwards

RankNameTeamOpponentValueComments
1Robert LewandowskiFCB@FCU20.7MIt was surprising that Lewandowski wasn't involved in a single goal when Bayern scored three and some might be having their doubts on whether he is essential or not. I would say you can avoid him but at your own risk. I don't think it is worth it.
2Wout WeghorstWolfsburgVs SGE16.4MWolfsburg was one of the teams with the least goals scored initially but that has turned around in the last three games in which they have scored nine goals in total, corresponding to Weghorst's purple patch who has scored four goals and assisted one in those games. Additional bonus is that he plays in the first game of the week against a Frankfurt team that hasn't kept a cleansheet in their last 23 Bundesliga games.
3Yussuf PoulsenRBLVs SVW11.4M
4Kingsley ComanFCB@FCU14.1MA bit unexpected but Coman has been the most in-form player for Bayern as of late and it is evident in his recent performances where he has scored two goals and assisted four in his last three games. Including the hattrick of assists against Leipzig last week.
5Alassane PléaBMGVs BSC16M
6Leon BaileyB04Vs TSG12.9MLeverkusen have been on a demolition derby as of late by scoring atleast three goals in nine out of their last 12 games across all competitions and Hoffenheim should be a more challenging game but it is tough to imagine that they will be spared.
7Andrej KramarićTSG@B0415.6MIt has almost become frustrating to own Kramaric after the introduction of Bebou up top. He plays like a secondary attacker now with Bebou taking a big pie out of his potential points.
8Andre SilvaSGE@WOB16.1M
9Marco ReusBVBVs VFB16.8M
10Jean-Phillipe MatetaM05Vs KOE11.6MMainz and Mateta's form has been a bit topsy-turvy so it is tough to set expectations. Especially against Koln who haven't conceded more than one goal away.

Midfielders

RankNameTeamOpponentValueComments
1Vincenzo GrifoSCFVs DSC12.9MNo other midfielder has scored more points over the last two weeks than Grifo with 16 points and a goal in each game. You can expect him to take on a lot of shots as well as create many in a game where Freiburg will be desperate to end their nine game winless streak.
2Daniel Caligiuri FCAVs S0410.5MCaligiuri has been a vital cog of the Augsburg attack being their top goal scorer this season and he will be a threat from set-pieces against the worst defending team from dead ball situations. Simply the best option against Schalke this week.
3Lars StindlBMGVs BSC13.3M
4Jadon SanchoBVBVs VFB17.9M
5Florian WirtzB04Vs TSG7.4M
6Giovanni ReynaBVBVs VFB8.3MPacks the same punch as Sancho at half the price.
7Daichi KamadaSGE@WOB13MIt is tough to select between him and Kostic but Kamada has simply been better this season and has the third highest key passes after Muller and Nkunku.
8Dani OlmoRBLVs SVW14.9MI would prefer Nkunku but since he doesn't feature in any predicted lineups, Olmo will be my second choice.
9Josip BrekaloWOBVs SGE10.6M
10Ritsu DoanDSC@SCF7.9M

Defenders

RankNameTeamOpponentValueComments
1Christian GünterSCFVs DSC11.7MDangerous set-piece and crossing ability always makes him a good option against lower teams.
2Marcel HalstenbergRBLVs SVW12.8MIf Angelino is rested then this penalty taking defender becomes the best asset from the Leipzig defense.
3Lucas HernandezFCB@FCU11.9MUnion might be the team with the most goals scored after Bayern but the absence of Max Kruse takes away all the venom from them.
4Mats HummelsBVBVs VFB14.2MThis is assuming Guerreiro doesn't start.
5IagoFCAVs S045.1MThere is a real chance that no-clean-sheet-in-seven-games-Augsburg gets scored on by the lowest scoring team in the league in Schalke but Iago is still worth a shout.
6Ismail JakobsKOE@M056.8M
7Oscar WendtBMGVs BSC6.4MThe suspension of Cunha should boost Borussia's clean sheet possibility a bit. Not that I am expecting one.

1Rafał GikiewiczFCAVs S047.4MThere might not be many shots to save for Gikiwicz but a good cleansheet chance should do.
2Stefan OrtegaDSC@SCF5.3MYes, I rated him over Müller who has better cleansheet odds since he is in better form and gets a lot of save points.

2NeymarPSGVs İstanbul Başakşehir11.4M
3Ciro ImmobileLazioVs Club Brugge10.5MClub Brugge has to be one of the easier opponents for Immobile to score against if he is to extend his goal-scoring streak to eight games.
4Cristiano RonaldoJuventus@Barcelona12M
5Kylian MbappéPSGVs İstanbul Başakşehir10.9MIt seems like the right game for him to break his goal-scoring deadlock.
6Lionel MessiBarcelonaVs Juventus12.1MThe Atomic Flea is still the most explosive player to get this week.
7Alassane PléaBorussia M'gladbach@Real Madrid8.4MPléa is now the highest scoring forward in the game and is in absolutely unreal form in the UCL scoring five goals and assisting three so far. A goal/assist every 45 minutes. He is going to be a key player if Borussia are to get a result from this game with Real Madrid also in contention to qualify.
8Mergim BerishaRB SalzburgVs Atletico Madrid7.2MHe has now scored in three consecutive champions league games and plays for a strong attacking team.
9Karim BenzemaReal MadridVs Borussia M'gladbach10.5M

Midfielders

RankNameTeamOpponentValueComments
1Bruno FernandesManchester United@RB Leipzig9.5MHe is one of the best options regardless of which opposition he plays against and United will be hoping for the best of him in a must win game. There will be time constraints for him however as they play the Manchester Derby next in a few days.
2Joao FelixAtletico Madrid@RB Salzburg9MSomeone who shoots at will is hard to ignore against a team that can't stop conceding.
3Diogo JotaLiverpool@Midtjylland7.9MIt is customary to rank a player who plays against Midtjylland even if he is surrounded by B team players in a meaningless game.
4Lars StindlBorussia M'gladbach@Real Madrid8.2M
5Joaquín CorreaLazioVs Club Brugge8.1MCorrea is listed as a midfielder but plays OOP as striker and has strong underlying stats that need to be converted into goals and assists.
6Jadon SanchoBorussia Dortmund@Zenit10M
7Christian PulisicChelseaVs Krasnodar9MChelsea against the team that has conceded the most shots in the league is a big mismatch. It was evident in their 0-4 victory in the reverse fixture where Pulisic scored.
8Dominik SzoboszlaiRB SalzburgVs Atletico Madrid7.1M
9Ferran TorresManchester CityVs Marseille7.7M
10Serge GnabryBayern MunichVs Lokomotiv Moscow9.8MHe will be desperate to turn his bad run of form around and Lokomotiv is a game where he can test his upside.

Defenders

RankNameTeamOpponentValueComments
1Trent Alexander-ArnoldLiverpool@Midtjylland6.7MHe averaged 10.3 points in the first three games and had two assists to go along with three clean sheets before injury brought him to a halt. Not often do defenders have so much upside to go along with a good opportunity at securing a clean sheet.
2MarquinhosPSGVs İstanbul Başakşehir5.6M
3Achraf HakimiInter MilanVs Shakhtar Donetsk5.9M
4Kyle WalkerManchester CityVs Marseille5.6MMarseille might have finally scored their first goal(s) of the tournament but I am still not convinced since both were penalties against Olympiacos. They still don't look like much of a threat from open play.
5Mats HummelsBorussia Dortmund@Zenit5.1M
6Cristian RomeroAtalanta@Ajax4.9MNot expecting a cleansheet but his ability to get recoveries is his most appealing attribute.
7Zaidu SanuziPorto@Olympiacos4.8MPorto have kept a cleansheet in their last four UCL games. The only time they conceded goals was in a 3-1 loss against Manchester City on MD1.
8AngeliñoRB LeipzigVs Manchester United5.4MHe is a defender with numbers that would even make forwards jealous. Angeliño has returned with a goal or assist in nine out of 15 games this season.
9Diego CarlosSevilla@Rennes5.1M
10César AzpilicuetaChelseaVs Krasnodar4.9MChelsea and City have conceded the least goals so far with just one.

UCL Fantasy Captain Picks: Matchday 6

In the final week of UCL Fantasy group stages before we get a wildcard, players with a knockout berth to play for double their worth in our UCL Fantasy captain picks for matchday 6:

UCL Fantasy Captains for Matchday 6

Romelu Lukaku Vs Shakhtar Donetsk (H)

There is a lack of clearcut captaincy options for Wednesday this week with Lukaku being the only exception. He was the hero in their last champions league game against Borussia with a brace in a thrilling 2-3 victory. Now for the last hurdle on their path to the knockout stages, they take on Shakhtar who sit second in the group and are a win/draw away from a spot in the knockouts. Inter will be desperate for a win and pin all their hopes on Lukaku again as they did the last time Inter played Shakhtar at home. It was the Europa League semi-final in August this year and they won it 5-0 on the back of two goals and an assist from Lukaku. His experience will be key here if they are to win and qualify.

Ciro Immobile Vs Club Brugge (H)

It is a simple equation for Lazio and a win or draw against Club Brugge will make them advance to the next round. Top-scorer Ciro Immobile heads into this game in red hot form having scored in seven consecutive games for Lazio across all competitions and is a good bet to be on the score sheet against a team that has conceded six goals over their last two UCL games. Both 3-0 losses to Borussia Dortmund.

Neymar Vs İstanbul Başakşehir (H)

PSG at home against Istanbul is still one of the easiest games on paper this week but it is still a must-win for them and they will look at Neymar to spur them onto victory. Despite having a slow start in the tournament, Neymar has been gaining some form over the past few weeks and now has three goals over his last two UCL games. Istanbul have conceded four goals in each of their last two games and we could see more of the same as PSG look to wrap up their group-stage chapter for the year.

Differential Captains

Bruno Fernandes Vs RB Leipzig (A)

This is shaping up to be the most exciting game of the week as both teams sit on the same amount of points and both Manchester United and RB Leipzig will fancy their chances of winning the game and going to the next stage. Goals can be expected in this game and if United are to score then it is hard to expect Fernandes to not be involved. Depending on how the game goes, he might be subbed out early as United play against Manchester City next in the league.

João Félix Vs RB Salzburg (A)

Salzburg’s attack-attack-attack philosophy and high-line have left a gaping hole in defence which explains why they have conceded the second-highest goals in the tournament (15) behind Ferencvárosi (16). They are the only team along with Lazio to have scored and conceded in each game so far. Both teams head into this game needing a victory to secure qualification. However, a draw should do the job for Atletico. Goals are to be expected in a game involving RB Salzburg and wonderkid Félix will look to be on target again as he did in the reverse fixture where he scored a brace in a 3-2 win.

Bundesliga Fantasy Differential Picks: Matchday 10

Mainz players are on focus in Bundesliga Fantasy as their easy fixtures and changing fortunes suddenly turn them into worthy differential picks. These are our Bundesliga Fantasy differential picks for matchday 10:

Forwards

Max Kruse Vs Hertha BSC (A)

Kruse is on some Lewandowski-Esque form right now and has scored in each of his last four games. Union have scored the most goals in the league so far thanks to his mind-blowing tally of six goals and five assists in just nine games which accounts for more than half of Union’s goals. He is only behind Lewandowski (12 goals + four assists) and Haland (10 goals + two assists) for the most goals+assists in the league. His stats don’t justify his mere 2% ownership and he is going to be the biggest threat for Hertha in the Berlin Derby.

Patrick Schick Vs Schalke (A)

The injury to Alario was unfortunate and he might still be back for the game but I think a target-man like Schick is a better fit against a team like Schalke. They still remain the team with most goals conceded from set-pieces and the 6 ft 2 in tall Czech striker would hope to find the end of one. If you want to look at other Leverkusen forwards then you are spoilt with options as Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey could also come good this week.

Midfielders

Florian Neuhaus Vs Freiburg (A)

Neuhaus heatmaps in the last two games suggest that he has been playing as a deep-lying playmaker and that reflects in his recent performances. He has scored in each of his last two games and finished with 18 and 12 points in them. Still, I think his 12.7M isn’t fully justified but he remains a punt-worthy option when there are few premium players to choose from and when the opposition team is weak and it’s a game that Borussia will dominate.

Jean-Paul Boëtius Vs Arminia Bielefeld (A)

The Dutch playmaker is slowly picking up form as the fixtures get easier for Mainz and has an assist in each of his last two games. Mainz does not have many midfielders to choose from but Boëtius is the best pick if you want to take advantage of a run where they play three of the bottom seven teams in Arminia, Koln and Hertha next. Only recommended for the long term if you have the luxury to throw money around for a boom or bust player.

Defenders

Mateu Morey Vs Frankfurt (A)

A much-deserved opportunity has finally arrived at the hands of 20-year-old Argentinian defender Mateu Morey after injuries to wingbacks Guerreiro and Meunier. In the match against Lazio over the week, he played higher up the pitch than Guerreiro at times, eventually made his way into the opposition box and should be involved in the attack against Frankfurt as well. All this while playing for one of the best defences in the league and costing just 3.2M.

Daniel Brosinski Vs Arminia (A)

Mainz are finally getting their act together as they look to avoid the bottom spots and secure their place in the top flight. After losing their first six games, they’ve got a point in each of their next three games including their first win against Freiburg. Their wingback Brosinski can be expected to ply higher up the pitch as they play oppositions from whom nothing less than three points is expected in each game. He is also one of the only defenders in the league who are on penalties. But I wouldn’t rely too much on their ability to win one.

Goalkeeper

Stefan Ortega Vs FSV Mainz (H)

He is Arminia’s star player and saved a penalty against RB Leipzig last week even though they eventually lost the game 2-1. A clean sheet is difficult to expect even if they play Mainz but he should still have plenty of shots to save against a Mainz team that isn’t really known for it’s finishing.
