GAFFR Fantasy Championship: Tipster Team Reveal for Matchday 1

Hello readers, I would like to introduce myself first. My name is Taufik Noise, also known as Noise Team in various fantasy football games. Last season I played GAFFR and finished with a rank of 335th OR and a total tally of 3130 points. So, if you finished above me then I hope that you agree with my picks as well.

I want to try to share my draft for wading through fantasy GAFFR 2021/2022. Disclaimer, I made a draft based on last season’s performance, schedule, and budget. Also, I have selected a maximum of two players from one team as consistency has been rare at the start of the season.

Fantasy Championship Goalkeeper Picks

Sam Johnstone (6.5M) is the best keeper in my opinion as WBA are expected to keep the most clean sheets this season and Bradley Collins (5.0M) is my second choice for the goalkeeper position. In the Premier League last season, Johnstone was the goalkeeper who made the highest number of saves with 166. While I have Collins because of Barnsley’s performance at the end of last season which saw them make a late push for a playoff spot. I will choose Johnstone to fill the line-up on my draft.

Fantasy Championship Defender Picks

Sheffield United assets two seasons ago stole the attention in the Premier League and FPL namely George Baldock (6.5M) and Enda Stevens (6.5M), but last season they were powerless and had one of the worst campaigns in Premier League history. To navigate the Championship division, I think the performance of the two will return to the same as two seasons ago, but I don’t want to risk having two Sheffield United defenders, so just one of them seems enough and even though I’m conflicted about which one is the best, I choose Baldock (6.5M) for my team.

Then, the next choice is Perry Ng (5.0M). The reason for this choice is that Cardiff City’s schedule at the start of this season is quite easy (vs BAR, @BPL, @PET, vs MIL, vs BRI) and Ng was one of the main choices in GAFFR last season. Next is Tosin Adarabioyo (6.0M), although relegated Fulham kept a clean sheet just nine times last season, it is Adarabioyo who is the key to their defence as they look to challenge for promotion again.

Next is Scott Malone (6.5M) and his price is quite high but his contribution to the team last season was quite good even though the Millwall team last season was not good enough to push the team into the playoff zone. Lastly, Andre Wisdom (5.0M) is the last defender on my team as the Derby Country schedule is fairly easy in the first five matches (vs HUD, @PET, @HUL, vs MID, vs NOT). Although I would put him on the bench Wisdom could be the right substitute if a player was injured, suspended, or moved to another club.

GAFFR Midfield Picks

I chose Alex Mowatt (8.5M) because his performances with Barnsley last season were very good with eight goals and seven assists in the campaign and I hope that he can adapt well and directly contribute with goals and assists for West Bromwich Albion.

Ilias Chair (7.5M) is in my team since the first two games for QPR are favourable and also because QPR have made a good impression in their pre-season matches so far.

Mario Vrančić (6.5M) has been signed by Stoke to increase attack power and so far in pre-season he has appeared to be quite impactful even though at Norwich last season there were not as many opportunities as he does now with “The Potters.”

I believe Joe Rothwell (5.5M) can be a shrewd pick at 5.5M especially this season as Blackburn lost Harvey Elliott who completed his loan and returned to his parent club, Liverpool FC. I think Rothwell will fill Elliott’s role and I hope he will do well even though Blackburn’s schedule at the start of this season isn’t the best. So, I will wait and watch his performances before adding him to my lineup.

Fabio Carvalho (5.0M) is my pick for a low budget midfielder. Fulham’s assets are very tempting because the first 10 matches of the schedule are relatively easy. I wanted to include the latest Fulham FC signing Harry Wilson (9.5M) to my team but the price was so high that it made my team’s balance shaky. Carvalho himself is not a bad choice I believe and at the end of the Premier League last season he had the opportunity to play four times and he scored one goal.

GAFFR Forward Picks

Kieffer Moore (10.0M) is the first forward in my team over Adam Armstrong (11.0M) and Dominic Solanke (11.0M) because of Cardiff’s fantastic schedule to start the season compared to Blackburn’s and Bournemouth’s schedule. Moore was also one of the best strikers in GAFFR last season with 20 goals in 42 games.

I have David McGoldrick (9.0M) in my team because I believe Sheffield can do a lot in the Championship this season. With so many choices in the forward department for the blades, I think McGoldrick will still be the first choice as he has experience on his side and the fact that he was their top goal-scorer last season with nine goals to his name.

I tried to find a cheap striker and my realistic choice fell to Yakou Méïté (6.5M). His price is quite tempting for someone who had 12 goals in 25 games last season and Reading’s schedule is quite good too. However, in Reading’s first match against Stoke, I will put Meite on the bench because I also have a Stoke player, Vrančić.

Tipster Team for Matchday 1

That’s all from me, I think this draft is 80% of the final draft, still subject to change depending on the incoming activity in the transfer window of players that interest me. Thank you for reading my first article for the website. See you soon.
